A COLD BOXING DAY

Just before everything closed down for christmas, a package arrived from our sponsor Keela.

In it was the Munro jacket and salopettes plus the thermal Belay jacket.

Waiting till boxing day before venturing up in the hills was like a kid wanting to play with christmas presents.

We started out 07.30am and what a day, strong winds, sleet, ice and snow.

The mountain chosen for this days training was Beinn Narnain as it has a short approach so more time can be spent on getting to terms with crampons, walking ice axe and the new clothing.

A couple of really unpleasant moments of the acrophobia kicking in, but i was gradually getting used to the steep and continuing the exposure that a couple of months ago would have been unthinkable.

After 8 hours in very wet and cold conditions it was time to go home and surprisingly i was still warm and dry.

The Belay thermal layer was not even needed as the Munro double layer system effectively captures warm air and keeps moisture away from the body.

By far the best clothing system i have ever tried for the mountains, no wonder it is used by Mountain Rescue Teams, Tactical Forces and expedition teams all over the world.
